Even in this digital age, it’s safe to say that printed photographs still haven’t lost their charm. After all, they’re tangible and easily accessible, unlike their digital counterparts which are stored in the cloud and eventually forgotten about. This also explains why instant cameras like Polaroid are still a hit these days. Well, an artist from Hongkong has taken inspiration from this retro photography style as she creates dainty embroidered Polaroids.

Known online as Artemis, this talented artist has made a name for herself with her painting-like stitched landscape pieces. And what’s even more impressive is that she renders them on small, Polaroid-size paper pieces. From dreamy gardens, lush meadows, to enchanting woodlands, each piece features a variety of stitching techniques and a combination of vibrant hues.

So, aside from being a delightful sight to behold, each piece also features intricate stitches that invite its observers to feel with their hands. Indeed, Artemis’s handmade pieces are not only a testament to her exceptional embroidery skills but of her love for nature as well.

“Living in a hectic city is too much for me. I love nature, mountains, ocean, sunset… It calms me down and deepens the bond between me and the universe. I guess this explains why my work is mostly landscapes.”

At the same time, she has also been experimenting with different types of surfaces to work on—from paper, canvas to fabric. She also revealed that she has recently incorporated crochet techniques into her masterpieces.
