DIY ‘Oogie Boogie’ Halloween Costume

Choosing a Halloween costume is always the highlight of the spooky season. And while you can always buy a ready-made one, you also have the option to DIY it, especially if you’re on a budget or just feeling extra creative. Luckily, there are tons of tutorials available online to guide you every step of the way. And if you’re a fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, then you’ll surely love this no-sew Oogie Boogie Halloween costume tutorial by YouTuber LinzMushel.

LinzMushel documented the entire process in a video which she uploaded to her channel, so anyone can easily follow along. The steps are fairly simple and straightforward, plus the materials she used are generally available in crafts stores. You can find the complete list of the items she used in the description box of her video tutorial.

Dress up as the infamous “Gambling Boogie Man” this Halloween with this no-sew Oogie Boogie costume

She started off by creating a mold for Oogie’s face using a cheap mask and cardboard. She then molded Oogie’s face out of air-dry modeling clay and left it to dry for 24 hours. Afterward, she took a few layers of black tulle, glued them onto the eye area, and trimmed off the excess portions. She did the same thing for the mouth area, but she used a piece of black felt instead.

After creating the face, she layered it with burlap fabric, fit it onto her head, and molded the fabric into a cone, similar to a wizard hat. She also added a few stuffing into the tip of the head to give it some form and weight. She used the same fabric for the body and sought her husband’s help to make an outline of her body onto the fabric.

Using her body’s outline as a guide, she cut the fabric into a big blob to match Oogie’s body. She also added a felt lining to serve as a stuffing pocket for the belly. Then she measured her torso, arms, and legs to create the respective parts. Finally, she combined the parts together using hot glue and added decorative stitching on the seams. As for the finishing touches, she used brown paint to add textures and details to the costume.
