Sara Blakely, the founder and CEO of the popular shapewear brand Spanx, celebrated a milestone for the company together with her employees. The company just inked a deal with Blackstone which pegged the company’s value at a whopping $1.2 billion. Blakely shared a short video of the emotional announcement where hundreds of her employees are in attendance. After giving a heartwarming speech recounting how the company made it far, she then surprised her staff by giving them a gift they would never forget.
On the video she shared on Instagram, Spanx CEO Sara Blakely commenced the celebration by narrating her inspiring story of success. It is indeed hard to believe that this successful entrepreneur once worked as a chipmunk mascot at Disney World and a door-to-door fax machine seller for seven years. She knew she was good at selling so she used that to start her own business. After quitting her job of selling fax machines, she put up her own start-up where she could sell something that she made herself and actually cared about – comfortable shapewear. And that’s how Spanx was born.

Sara Blakely even showed her lucky red backpack that she used when she was just starting the company. After a cheerful toast, she went on to spin a globe before revealing a surprise gift to her staff. The generous CEO concluded the celebration by giving each of her employee two first-class tickets to anywhere in the world and $10,000 cash to spend on their trip. This put everyone into a burst of excitement, some jumping for joy, some shedding tears of happiness, while others are slack-jawed in disbelief. Best boss ever!
