People Have Been Sharing Hilarious “My House, Not My Cat” Pics And It’s Getting Out Of Hand

There’s a Facebook group called My House, Not My Cat and the name says it all. It is a page that documents adorably bold cats that just make themselves at home. You’ve probably woke up one morning to find a kitty sitting on your kitchen counter. And you’ve probably petted it for a few seconds until you realized you don’t actually own a cat.

If this ever happened to you then you’re not the only one. Many people have been sharing their own hilarious stories of finding a strange kitty chilling in their homes. Amusingly, these furry intruders even seem to comfortably feel at home. True enough, there’s a lot of memes about this popping up all over the internet. Yet surprisingly, there wasn’t a single group created specifically for this. So, Stephanie Holcomb decided to create an online community where people can share stories and photos of cats intruding their homes and claiming it as their own.

Finding strange cats in homes is actually more common than you think

There are about 70 million stray cats in the US alone. A large part of this population are previously-owned domestic kitties. This explains why many of these stray felines still seek the company of humans. Since they were accustomed to being taken care of by their previous owners, they tend to approach even strangers to ask for food. In more desperate situations, stray kitties would even sneak into homes just to find something to eat. And in most cases, these cute stray felines would feel as if they’re home and tend to stay for good.

Some of these stories have a happy ending because the cats get adopted or reunited with owners

There have been several cases where homeowners ended up adopting these adorable intruders. Some people even consider themselves lucky for being chosen by these furry felines. The founder behind the Facebook group My House, Not My Cat wants to highlight these incidences. The page is open to all who have interesting stories to share about finding an unfamiliar feline in their homes. If you find these stories amusing then you only need to visit the group to read more fascinating stories and to see endearing photos of these adorable house visitors.

“We do have rules that they [the posts] have to be group-specific, and we decline some that aren’t,” Holcomb said. “Other animals, for example, maybe funny but we want to be specific. Our rules are: it has to be your house (or yard, or deck, or work) and it has to be not your cat (we call them NMCs, for Not My Cat). We do accept ‘My Cat, Not My House’ because we have found that sometimes neighbors text pictures of people’s cats in their house. It’s kind of turned around, but the same concept.”

We’ve picked some of the cutest photos from the Facebook group to give you your daily dose of feline cuteness.
