Stray Cat Who Was The ‘Saddest Cat’ At The Shelter Is Unrecognizable After A Woman Convinced Her Landlord To Let Her Bring Him Home

Heartwarming stories about rescue pets and their transformation for the better always hit us in a soft spot. It’s time to take a break from all the tragic news we’re hearing now and let this inspiring story uplift your spirits. Meet Mister Bruce Willis, a stray cat who was rescued by the Animal Humane Society in Minnesota. Apparently, he was named after the American actor known for playing wisecracking and hard-edged characters. At first, you may think the name doesn’t suit this kitty at all. But you’ll soon discover that he’s also a fighter.

For years, this cat has been living on the streets before he was rescued by the animal shelter. Needless to say, this poor kitty had endured a savage life on the streets his entire life. And his impoverished condition was a proof of his struggles of being a homeless animal. When he arrived at the shelter, he was dubbed as ‘the saddest cat’ due to his miserable state. His scars, eye injury and chipped teeth are proof that he had lived and barely survived a very brutal life. On top of these, he was also found positive for feline immunodeficiency virus. And due to his weak immune system, he eventually caught an upper respiratory infection from other pets at the shelter.

But the cat’s life would later change after a woman named Sandra saw his photo on a post from the Animal Humane Society. Smitten by his sad eyes and severe condition, Sandra knew that the cat on the photo was in dire need of help. And it’s not just medical help, the poor kitty was clearly in need of a loving family who could give him a better life. Unfortunately, Sandra lives in an apartment where pets are not allowed. So the only thing she could do for Willis was to visit him regularly at the shelter.

“He looked even sadder in real life and I had to leave after only a couple of minutes because it was so heartbreaking. For some reason, I kept going back to visit him.”, Sandra said. “I hoped that someone would adopt him, but he was still there, week after week.”

Sadly, no one came to adopt the sickly stray cat. But that didn’t stop Sandra from trying to save the kitty’s life. For a month, she tried to convince her landlord to grant her an exception so she can bring Willis home. And when her landlord finally agreed to it, she took Willis home from the shelter the following day.

“He went from being the saddest cat to the happiest cat I’ve seen in only a couple of hours. He purred all night long and wouldn’t leave my side.”

Willis, After Adoption

Sandra created an Instagram page to document the transformation of her beloved feline pet. From the first time she saw him at the shelter until he turned into a handsome furball, you can see his entire transformation from the photos and videos on the page. The page was only created last year but it already amassed over 100k followers. As you can see from his latest photos, the 7-year-old orange tabby is looking happy and healthy. And this is all because his loving owner is making sure he is healthy by taking him to the vet regularly. Fortunately, Willis is now free from any disease and infection.

People often tell me that Bruce is so cute and that they would have adopted him right away. But as many of you also know, the pretty cat you’re used to seeing today looked a lot different the day I picked him up from the shelter (swipe left). Although I will never be able to cure his FIV, it’s amazing what lots of love can do. And while you can’t have Bruce, there are thousands of cats like him that need your help. This week we’ve partnered with the shelter Bruce came from, in honor of National Animal Shelter Week. Consider making a donation to support @animalhumanemn so that they can help animals like Bruce find new homes. All donations are tripled this week only. Why are animal shelters important to you? Share your story with #ShelterWeek, and you'll be entered to win @1013kdwb Jingle Ball tickets or a $100 Target gift card.

When Mister Willis is outside, if he got it his way, he wouldn’t want to be seen with me. He doesn’t want Chippy ? to know that he’s a momma’s boy who likes to snuggle on fluffy pillows and eat baby food off a golden spoon. But then this happened yesterday! He joined me on the blanket outside. After a while, he even fell asleep and we sat there until long after the sun had gone down. It’s hard to not think about his past when this was his reality every day; falling asleep under the blue (or dark) sky. Although it must’ve come with a lot of freedom, it also meant that he always had to be on edge. Was that noise in the bushes a coyote? Or maybe it was a mouse and if he didn’t catch it, he would have to starve that day. No wonder he sleeps like a prince inside these days. The only thing he has to worry about now is keeping track of me in case I go into the kitchen so he can follow me and beg for a treat ?
