Gone are the days when cakes are made in regular shapes like round, square, or rectangle. Today, pastry art has literally given traditional desserts new shapes and forms. And we’re quite sure you haven’t seen one like this math cake collection by Dinara Kasko. This Ukrainian baker is one of those contemporary pastry chefs who are molding ordinary desserts into stunning works of art. While it’s true that there are plenty of creative pastry chefs who could make gorgeous-looking cakes, Kasko’s unique artistic culinary technique is truly unlike any other.

Mesmerizing cakes shaped into grids of pyramids, origami folds, cubist fruits, and geometric patterns. It’s easy to see that Kasko’s math cake collection is greatly inspired by math and art. Remarkable designs that are indicative of 3D graphs and geometric models, one could only wonder how she constructed each edible sculptural piece. Indeed, this talented baker is pushing the boundaries of basic cake design. And to come up with mind-blowing designs, she utilizes mathematical algorithms, computer imaging, and 3D printing.

Incorporating art into culinary has hit the mainstream in the food industry. But putting food, art, and math altogether is definitely unheard of. Well, not until now. You might be wondering how a pastry chef could competently incorporate all these three things together. And that’s because Kasko was initially an architect before she turned into a groundbreaking pastry chef. She designs each piece, prints the mold using a 3D printer, and completes her creation in her studio in Ukraine.

After casting the 3D-printed silicone mold, she fills it with mousse then presses in layers of cream, cake, fruits, and other ingredients. After freezing, she peels off the mold to reveal the shape and finishes it off with glaze and other embellishments. The results are impressive sculptural confectionery pieces which made Kasko a prominent media figure in the baking industry.
