There are many ways to incorporate greenery into your home. For starters, you can go the conventional route by growing a garden in your backyard. However, if taking care of plants is not your forte, then why not handcraft them instead? From paper plants to crocheted houseplants, Japanese artist Konekono Kitsune offers another interesting alternative with her vegetable embroidery designs.

Based in Tokyo, the artist delights in creating stitched replicas of fresh produce straight from her garden or the market. From lush leafy greens to robust root crops, each piece features a three-dimensional effect, accurately representing its real-life counterpart.

Japanese artist Konekono Kitsune creates lush vegetable embroidery designs for your eyes to feast on

Aside from choosing threads that match the colors of the veggies, she also renders every detail on fabric with maximum precision—from curly lettuce leaves, intertwined turnip roots, textured bitter gourd surfaces, and more. She then photographs each finished masterpiece alongside its inspiration to showcase its uncanny similarity to the other.

In addition to fabric embroidery hoops, she also renders some of her designs on pouches, shirts, brooches, and even magnets. Indeed, Kitsune’s works prove that it’s possible to cultivate a vegetable garden with just a few needles and some threads.
