Artist Ryan Eicher Creates Beautiful Glass Snakes With Colorful Patterns

Let’s be honest – some animals are not as well-loved as others. Serpents, for example, are often perceived as dangerous animals to be feared or hated. But Maryland-based artist Ryan Eicher finds inspiration in the beauty of these enigmatic reptiles and creates glass snakes that alluringly capture their charm. His mind-blowing glass-blown creations feature curled serpents from borosilicate glass. What’s more striking about his serpentine figurines is their mesmerizing colors and patterns that make you want to stare at them all day long.

Eicher creates glass snakes in either opaque or transparent composition. Sometimes he combines both with half of the figurine’s body opaque while the other half clear. In addition to vibrant colors, the artistic glassblower often fills his pieces with stripes, spirals, and other hypnotizing patterns. Some of his creations are even filled with glow-in-the-dark lines that make the serpent figurines illuminate in the dark for a breathtaking effect.

When he started blowing glass at age 18, he developed his own lampworking technique which involves the process of using torch to melt and stretch the glass. After five years of doing glasswork, he decided to make some figurines in the form of curled serpents. And for the last 10 years, he had focused his art and craftsmanship on making glass snakes.
