The bestselling children book creator is offering video drawing tutorials on YouTube to help kids get though home quarantine. The coronavirus pandemic has forced many countries to go on a lockdown. This means home quarantine and social distancing policies need to be implemented and observed. Not just businesses, but also classes in all levels are indefinitely suspended. So both kids and adults alike are required to stay at home for an indefinite period of time.
Since schools are closed for the moment, many parents have to think of some ways to keep their children occupied at home. Obviously, letting them play video games 24/7 isn’t the healthiest way to keep them entertained. Parents also need to make sure that their kids are still learning while they are home. But no matter how they want to homeschool their children, most parents also need to carry on with their work-from-home jobs. They don’t have to worry about that anymore because Mo Willems is coming to the rescue.
Mo Willems Teaches Kids To Draw Doodles on YouTube
Just like other schools, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts also cancelled classes tentatively through the 10th of May due to the coronavirus pandemic. But that didn’t stop the school from providing lessons even during the quarantine period. The education center appointed Mo Willems as its first artist-in-residence. They sponsored a series of virtual drawing lessons featuring the bestselling book illustrator as a way to educate and entertain children during the pandemic crisis.
Mo Willems will be conducting a series of drawing sessions which they name Lunch Doodles. Children and learners worldwide can watch free videos showing the artist draw easy-to-make doodles taken from his home. Viewers are encouraged to join the session by following Mo’s simple instructions and demonstrations. Each episode is posted each weekday at 1:00 PM EST on Kennedy Center’s website where each video remains online to be streamed afterwards. Furthermore, each episode is also shared on their official YouTube account. So, everyone can have easier access to the video sessions.
“I know a lot of you guys are not in school,” Mo Willems said in the introductory video. “You’re at home right now because of all the things that are going on. Well, guess what? I’m at home, too. We’re gonna hang out together.”
As of this writing, the Lunch Doodles series on YouTube currently has nine episodes with more video sessions coming up in the next days.
