Our favorite condiment can now be enjoyed as a creamy dessert. French’s unveiled the first ever mustard ice cream during the National Mustard Day last August 3. The American condiment company collaborated with popular ice cream brand Coolhaus to bring forward the limited edition mustard ice cream. The tangy taste of mustard makes it perfect as a dressing for hotdogs and hamburgers. But as an ice cream? We’re honestly not so sure about that.
This is actually not the first time that a condiment is made into a frozen treat. In fact, the mayonnaise ice cream and ketchup ice cream shocked the entire world in 2018. Opinions were split as to the flavor of these condiment-flavored ice creams. Some find the flavors perfectly harmonizing while others find the jumbling flavors unappetizing.
While the mayonnaise and ketchup ice creams have their own share of praises and criticisms, many people were wondering why the ‘other’ condiment hasn’t made any move just yet. As it turned out, French’s is just waiting for the right moment to introduce the mustard ice cream. And the National Mustard Day is the perfect chance to do it.
The mustard-flavored ice cream was served at Coolhaus’ location in Culver City from August 2 to 4 and August 9 to 11. Simultaneously, an ice cream truck roamed around New York City offering free samples of the new ice cream flavor. The ice cream was paired with a pretzel cookie. So, did the new mustard-flavored ice cream get the nod from the people? Some people claimed that the golden yellow-colored ice cream really smelled like mustard.
The first lick gave them a sweet and fruity flavor that is typical of regular ice cream. But the sweetness was quickly replaced by a savory note of mustard. Just like the mayonnaise and the ketchup ice creams, people were divided as to the taste of the mustard ice cream. But everyone agrees that it was worth the try.
