We love seeing fireworks light up the night sky. However, the sound of fireworks absolutely terrifies our beloved pet dogs. This has inspired Ford to design a noise-cancelling dog kennel. Finally, our furry friends can have a safe haven while we celebrate to our hearts’ content!
As we all know, dogs have extremely sensitive ears. To give us a better understanding of the dogs’ reaction to fireworks, Ford enlisted an expert. “To dogs, fireworks are different to natural sounds, like for example, thunder,” Graeme Hall explains. Graeme Hall or “The Dogfather”, is one of the UK’s best dog trainers as he’s helped resolve over 5,000 canine behavioral problems. “Many animals find fireworks scary – and compared to people, dogs can hear things that are four times further away, and across a much wider range of frequencies.” When asked about what could be done to help dogs feel a little more comfortable, Hall advised:
“Preparing in advance of fireworks displays is the key – and part of that is to identify where your pets feel safe and happy.”
Every dog owner’s heard of ways to help lessen their dog’s stress and anxiety during New Year. But it seems that no matter what we try to do, we just can’t help our dogs enough. Fortunately, Ford realized that noise-cancelling technology may be the answer. Lyn West, the brand content manager of Ford of Europe’s Marketing Communications, had to this to say:
“We wondered how the technologies we use in our cars could help people in other situations. Making sure dogs and their owners could enjoy a stress-free New Year’s Eve seemed like the perfect application for our Active Noise Control system, and we have a few more ideas in progress as to how our everyday lives might benefit from a little Ford know-how.”

Right now, existing dog kennels look like, dare we say it, a jail and quite frankly, they deserve better. Featuring a modern minimalistic design that sort of resembles the Sydney Opera House, this conceptual dog kennel is a definitely a chic and functional addition to any household.
In addition to its sleek design, the kennel also utilizes clever, noise-cancelling technology that Ford built into their Edge SUV. This smart and modern kennel features automatic doors and has been lined with noise-dampening cork panels. Built-in microphones will then detect high level noises then emit opposite frequencies to repel the blaring noise.
Unfortunately, this awesome invention is still a prototype. It’s the first initiative from Ford’s Interventions program which seeks to explore how automotive technology can help every day problems. But we’re certainly looking forward to the official launch of the noise-cancelling dog kennel. Hopefully it won’t cost as much a car!
