India has so much to offer to its people and tourists alike. If you’re planning to take a trip to this charming country, make sure to visit the tallest bird sculpture in the world. The 200-feet sculpture lies on top of the 1,000-feet Jatayupara towers located at Jatayu Earth Centre in Chadayamangalam, Kerala.  Rajiv Anchal, an Indian film director and sculptor, took 10 years to finish this magnificent sculpture. This gigantic statue of a fallen eagle has caught the attention of social media even during its construction. Now, people can finally see this spectacular attraction up close and personal. Instagram and Twitter better get ready because this majestic eagle statue is going to take over social media for sure.

Rajiv’s creation is definitely the tallest bird sculpture to ever exist. And it was made so realistic that it actually looks like a real eagle from afar. The sculpture depicts Jatayu, a character from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Jatayu is a demi-god who takes the form of a giant eagle. (Yup, Maui from Disney’s Moana absolutely rings a bell.) According to the legend, when Jatayu saw the abduction of goddess Sita, he tried to save her by fighting Ravana. Unfortunately, Ravana won over him. After falling on the rocks of Chadayamangalam, Ravana finishes him off by cutting off his wings. And that is the heartbreaking end of Jatayu’s heroic deed.

Rajiv has been planning to build Jatayu’s sculpture right on the same spot where he fell. He first introduced the idea to the Department of Tourism in the 1980s. Although the officials like the idea, the implementation proved to be quite a challenge. Thankfully, Rajiv’s concept was finally brought to life and became the tallest bird sculpture in world. The artist aims to make the monument as a symbol of Indian culture and not as a religious emblem.

“People of all faiths have invested in the project and people of all faiths will be coming to see it. My work is for all of them. For those looking for religion, there is the old temple just outside the compound.”
