Although things have improved greatly for women in many countries, even in the last 100 years or so, its still impossible to claim that men and women are treated in a truly equal way in society. After all, women still get paid less than men for doing the exact same job and only around 5 percent of charges of sexual assault against women result in a conviction (far less if you factor in all the unreported cases). There's no single reason why this is the case, but it all leads back to living in a patriarchal society, where women are treated in an entirely different way from men. The people at 'Huffington Post' put together this video showing 48 things that women hear in a lifetime, that men just don't. You might think that these things are insignificant, and it is true, they aren't much more than minor annoyances. But, the fact of the matter is that these minor comments are symptoms of a larger issue, and until this is resolved, it's unlikely people will understand that it's not their place to make these kinds of comments!
