A furless body with wrinkled skin and a devious face. Not exactly the qualities you would look for in a cat, eh? Well, as it turns out, one cat has gained himself a massive following by possessing such qualities. And he’s here to prove that looks can be pretty much deceiving at times too. Meet Xherdan the Naked Cat, hailing from Rüti in Switzerland.
At a glance, Xherdan might look like a villain straight out of a fairytale, plotting his next evil plan. However, his 47-year-old fur parent Sandra Filippi proves otherwise. She recalled meeting the Canadian Sphynx for the first time back when he was only 12 weeks old.
“His wrinkled pink skin as fine as a peach, his turquoise eyes as blue as the ocean… I was in love!”

Contrary to the popular notion that these cats’ furless-ness makes them low-maintenance, it’s actually the other way around. Unlike cats of other breeds, sphynxes require bathing and basic grooming on a regular basis. Indeed, caring for a sphynx can be much more demanding. However, their playfulness, lovely personality, and unconditional love for their humans make up for this. And Filippi can certainly attest to this.
“He makes me and other people laugh all the time and that’s the most beautiful thing there is. I am so incredibly proud. He is just so unique.”

In addition to Xherdan, Filippi is mom to two other Don Sphynx cats. According to Filippi, “Sphynxes should always be kept in close contact with other Sphynx cats, otherwise, they will wither away.” But, as it turns out, Xherdan enjoys the company of humans the most. Just like a child, Xherdan loves staying by his fur parents’ side, seeking attention and some cuddles on the side.

Xherdan is now six and a half years old and currently boasts over 33K followers on Instagram. Apparently, he’s been stealing the hearts of many through his “nude” photos online. Given his unique features, people couldn’t help but compare him to all sorts of objects. From a grumpy grandma, a pig, a brain, to even a dumpling—the list just goes on and on.
