If you love both kayaking and photography, there’s something you need to see: it’s the Stephen Orlando kayak light paintings.

Based in Ontario, Stephen Orlando is a photographer that captures gorgeously colored light patterns through what’s called aquatic travel. He uses slow shutter speeds and LED lights, and he captures the “energy motion of music” to create artworks set in water.

The photographer’s latest set of photographs features beautiful light patterns created by the movements of kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards.

The Stephen Orlando Kayak Light Paintings Make Use Of Technicolor LED Lights

Orlando uses Technicolor LED lights to achieve the desired effects. He attaches these lights to the paddles of the water vessels and then takes photographs of them with prolonged exposure. As a result, he’s able to capture the motion of the lights as the rowing goes on. What comes out is a spectacular artwork that is indeed delightful to the eyes.

This water-related series shares similarities to Orlando’s previous works. But, his recent light paintings stand out for some reason. This time around, the presence of humans is welcome. In some photographs, you’ll see the paddlers themselves. Moreover, the new Stephen Orlando kayak light paintings are set in wider views. You could see forests, mountains, cityscapes, and land art as backdrops.

The kayak light paintings definitely present the kind of aesthetics Orlando is now interested in. This time, he wants to:

“…focus on motions in nature and in urban landscapes, as well as human movement.”
