Chinese artist Luo Li Rong takes inspiration from Renaissance and Baroque sculpting techniques to create life-size, realistic sculptures of women. Capturing the ethereal beauty of the human figure, her creations typically portray women in motion.

Born in Hunan, China, the 40-year-old artist’s works are essentially a fusion of realism and fantasy. She often depicts her masterpieces situated in a seemingly breezy location, with their hair and dresses “flowing” with the wind.

So, Luo makes sure to carefully and accurately portray the delicate folds and creases of her characters’ clothing. To add to her characters’ mystical appearance, she sometimes portrays them floating on air, standing on clouds and even holding a raindrop.

Luo pursued her passion for the arts and sculpting at a young age. At the age of 18, she studied at the Changsha Academy of Arts. Two years later, she joined the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing to study ceramics and sculpture. During her stay in CAFA, she actively participated in various sculpture exhibitions.

In 2002, she also had the opportunity to work with other artists for a collective exhibition for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. And in 2005, she graduated from CAFA’s Sui Jian Guo’s sculpture department with high honours. During the same year, she also travelled to France where she worked with Wang Du, another renowned contemporary sculptor.

Since then, she continued honing her skills and developing her style further. Featuring graceful bodies clad in seemingly fluid drapery, Luo’s breathtaking creations are, no doubt, highly influenced by prominent Renaissance and Baroque sculptors. Just like Fredrik Raddum, Luo also primarily works in bronze. Keep scrolling down to see some of her stunningly realistic sculptures. Also, feel free to follow her on Instagram to see more of her amazing works.
