The ‘Nap Desk’ Converts Into A Bed So You Can Sleep At Work

There are times when the only way to beat a tight deadline is to work overtime. Hate it or love it, that’s just how corporate life is. Luckily, there’s now an office nap desk that makes it totally acceptable to sleep at work. Unlike the “nap sack sleep hood” and the nap chair, this convertible desk lets you sleep peacefully and discreetly. That said, you won’t have to deal with feelings of discomfort and even guilt for napping at work anymore.

Designed by Greek company Studio NL, this prototype workspace measures 2 meters long and 0.8 meters wide. Hence, they aptly named it “1.6 S.M. of Life.” The desk is made of metal, lacquered wood, solid wood and white leather. At first glance, it looks just like a typical work desk, but the real magic actually lies underneath it.

To unveil the bed compartment underneath, slide the table’s top plate forward, then fold the front panel inwards. The front panel will serve as the mattress for your compact yet cozy bed. Once inside, fold one side slightly back down to serve as your headrest. Two chains hold up the side panel from both ends, so you’ll get just the right elevation for your neck and head. Meanwhile, the other side has a screen where you can watch movies or stream videos as you doze off.

Basically, it’s just like a bunk bed where the top is a workspace, and the bottom is a cozy cot. It’s certainly ideal for two-person teams who might need to work extra hours to get an important project done. And while you sleep in the bed compartment, your colleague can still continue working on the table’s top plate. Similarly, you can also use it to enjoy a quick nap in the middle of the day. That’s, of course, depending on your company’s policy.

Unfortunately, this convertible table is currently unavailable for purchase at the time. There’s also quite limited information provided on the firm’s website. It seems like the desk is a one-off design that they specifically made for a client. Nonetheless, we still have our hopes high regarding this nap desk’s mass production and market availability.
