Plants around you are moving by themselves although you may not realize it. They move in response to light, external stimulus, and some to feed. But they move very slowly that we don’t notice that they bend, stretch, and droop to adjust to changes in the environment. One Twitter user filmed their indoor plants throughout the day and shared the house plant time lapse video to show how much plants actually move in a day.
On the time lapse video, Twitter user @Melora_1 showed a variety of potted Calathea plants along with a red clock to indicate the minute movement in quick succession. Calathea plants are commonly called ‘prayer plants’ from the fact that the leaves close in at night resembling a pair of praying hands and open up in the day to collect sunlight. Of course, we don’t notice this event as the tiny movements are done in slow-motion. This is why this Twitter user thought of making a time lapse video to capture this slow-moving event.
