They say it’s never too late to start on a new path to success and no one is too old when it comes to realizing career success. While we’ve heard about inspiring stories about people who found big success later in life, this little girl also proves that it’s also never too early to start succeeding. Six-year-old Kendall Rae Johnson from Atlanta, Georgia found her passion in farming at the age of 3 and is now recognized as the youngest certified farmer in the state. Her booming farming business named aGROWKulture doesn’t only grow the freshest produce but the innovative little girl also uses her business as a platform to encourage other kids into farming.

It was Kendall’s great-grandmother who first taught her how to grow food. She started out replanting collard green stems on their patio garden. And when the stems grew into fresh collard greens that they could eat, the little girl had since wished nothing but to plant more veggies. She began planting other seeds in their garden and as she grew up, her vegetable garden also grew and expanded into a large backyard farm. The young farmer herself grows a variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits, and even flowers in her own farm which eventually boomed into a successful agricultural business.

Her farm offers monthly subscription baskets containing newly-harvested food in various kinds. In order to extend her marketplace, she’s also planning to connect with local restaurants and juice bars.

Aside from producing an array of fresh food, Kendall also offers a program to motivate young people to grow their own food. Every month, she opens her farm to interested participants where they can learn how to plant and harvest fresh produce straight from her farm. Her initiative was recognized by the state government and was officially proclaimed as the youngest certified farmer in Georgia.

The proclamation helped her bring her business platform under the national spotlight. She is now taking part in a YouTube cooking show Farm to Kitchen where she cooks and shares recipes using freshly-harvested food from her farm. But her mission doesn’t stop there.

The young farmer is aiming to raise $10,000 so she can build an agricultural science lab. She could use this establishment to teach kids the basics and essence of organic farming. When she appeared on Good Morning America for an interview, she was surprised when she was granted $10,000 so she can fulfill her mission.

“People say take one step at a time. In her case, it is plant a seed at a time,” says Kendall’s mother, Ursula Johnson. “We want her to thrive and enjoy what she’s doing, and that’s number one.”
