Over the course of time, sculptors have been using different types of materials when creating sculptural pieces. Today, contemporary sculptors are using unconventional materials such as paper and steel wire. If you’ve been following our page, you’ve probably seen some amazing examples of steel wire sculptures which we’ve previously featured. These include the remarkable works of Darius Hulea, Kendra Haste, and Richard Stainthorp. Although each of their own unique style, these modern sculptors all use steel wire as their main medium. Indeed, steel wire sculpting is making a breakthrough in the visual arts as evidenced by the increasing number of sculptors.

Lets Take A Look At Some of the Steel Wire Sculptures

We’ve found another astounding artist who creates impressive figurative sculptures by using stainless steel threads and polymer coating. Siberian artist Nadia Zubareva has been making life-size sculptural masterpieces from steel wires since 2010. Some of her most notable works are now on display at The State Russian Museum and The Anna Akhmatova Musuem in St. Petersburg.

What makes Zubareva’s sculptures different among others is that her style takes on classical figures inspired by Greek and Roman arts. There’s Apollo based on Leochares’ marble sculpture from classical antiquity. Zubareva also made her own version of the Three Graces which is inspired Antonio Canova’s famous sculpture.

Aside from her classical-inspired creations, Zubareva also finds inspiration from notable figures such as the Russian prima ballerina Anna Pavlova. Named after the famous ballerina, the sculptural piece features the iconic dancer in her tutu skirt with her pointing toes resting on a snowy ground.

Zubareva creates her steel wire sculptures by sewing the steel threads into a metal box. Furthermore, the metal box also serves as the figure’s three-dimensional frame. Each translucent figure seemed to be trapped in their own boxes as they evoke different emotions as light passes through. We’ve compiled her best creations so far to showcase the artist’s ingenuity and endless possibility of using steel wires in artworks.
