Cats rule the internet. There’s no way around it. Specially in this day and age, where we meet more felines destined for fame simply by wandering down Instagram’s explore page. What can we say? We’re suckers for anything adorable and hilarious – it’s the cheapest stress reliever! And we just know that you’ll absolutely adore this new feline Instagram star. Meet Ikiru the cat- he’s an exotic shorthair and his ‘blep’ face game is absolutely on point!

For those wondering, the term ‘blep’ is an internet slang used to describe the expression when portion of a dog or cat’s tongue is sticking out their mouth and they seem totally un-bothered by it. And this cat’s got it down. According to his parents Rich and Emma, it was love at first sight for them when they spotted him on a cat breeder’s website. They fell head over heels in love with him after their first visit, and now they all live happily together in Yorkshire, England.

Meet Ikiru the cat, the King of Blep

As we’ve mentioned earlier, he is an Exotic Shorthair. His breed is relatively new, as their breed history only goes back 50 years. The exotic shorthair has the combined features of the American Shorthair and the Persian. Given their mixed lineage, these cats are also fondly called as the Shorthair Persian and is also nicknamed “the lazy man’s Persian”. They’re ideal pets for those who want to have a fluffy companion but can’t commit to the grooming required to maintain the Persian’s coat. Their sweet personalities are also a big plus!

“He’s loving, affectionate, and grumpy in the best way. Ikiru is also playful and endlessly amusing. One particular quirk is he loves tunneling and hiding underneath things like blankets or sheets of paper, or staring at you upside down from the corner of a room.”

His parents made an Instagram page to document his hilariously adorable expressions

Rich and Emma certainly know what we’re talking about, as the cat has become a treasured member of their family. And they loved his wacky facial expressions so much that they just had to share it with the world. Now, he currently has over 60,000 followers on his Instagram account!

“Ikiru is really healthy and our vet told us he has some of the best teeth she has ever seen. Exotic shorthairs have a highly pudgy face but he’s very energetic and in great shape. Believe it or not, he doesn’t always have his tongue hanging out, but it seems like a quirk of his, leading to some amusing facial expressions.”

Ikiru the cat was named after one of his parent’s favorite Akira Kurosawa films

The word ‘Ikiru’ means “to live” or “living” in Japanese. And we can certainly say that this funny feline‘s totally living his best life! He not only makes his parents but Instagram audience laugh with his antics. “We get messages from all around the world saying his silly faces, cuteness and personality brightens their day,” his owners said. “He even inspires fan art, people have some fantastic illustrations which really capture his cheeky character.”
