Misinformation is easily spread, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Therefore, there are probably all sorts of things that you believe to be true that are, in fact, false. This may be especially true of historical facts, because the people in question lived so long ago that you're getting the information tenth or twentieth hand, if not more.
