Photoshop has outrageously affected society in positive and negative ways. Apparently, the popular image editing software has changed our perception of reality, making it almost impossible to distinguish a real image from a fake one. This powerful tool has enabled everyone to transform their bodies into their ideal ‘Barbie doll’ shape, erase all skin imperfections, change the background, and modify all the colors on their photos. Even the most impossible things can be attained if you know how to use this software.

In a negative sense, people have been overusing Photoshop to create a culture of unrealistic perfection that doesn’t exist in reality. As a result, heavily edited photos of perfect bodies and flawless skin have caused low self-esteem and body image issues on many people. Furthermore, false advertisements featuring unattainable image of perfection can adversely promote unrealistic expectations that are bound to fail. But photo manipulation isn’t all that bad. Besides, the negative impacts aren’t entirely the fault of the software itself. The power to manipulate an image can also be used to spread happiness and laughter. And this Indonesian photographer chooses to use that power for this purpose.
