    Artist Alireza Karimi Moghaddam Creates Colorful Illustrations Inspired By Van Gogh

    Vincent van Gogh is undeniably one of the greatest artists of all time. Even up to this day, his life and his works continue to inspire many creatives from around the world. Persian cartoonist and illustrator Alireza Karimi Moghaddam is definitely one of them. In fact, his artworks primarily revolve around depicting the deceased artist’s life in a rather fantastical way.

    Aptly entitled Fancy Van Gogh, his series of illustrations portray the iconic figure’s life with a modern twist and fantastical flair. In one piece, he is seen sitting by the airport window. In another, he is drawing on his tablet while aboard a train.

     

     

     

     

    Moghaddam’s works also explore unexpected interactions between Van Gogh and other prominent personalities like Frida Kahlo and even animated characters like Tintin and Snowy. Adopting the same style as Van Gogh, his digital masterpieces are also rendered using multiple swirling brushstrokes.

    Moghaddam revealed that he fell in love with Van Gogh’s life story and paintings in his teenage years. Since then, he has been following all sorts of works dedicated to Van Gogh—from books, movies, and more. It’s safe to say that Van Gogh has been and still is one of the greatest inspirations in his creative journey.

     

    “For me, Van Gogh is not only a famous artist and a genius but a way of life. He is not a frustrated and distressed model but a symbol of love, humanity, and altruism. I understand and propagate his creative ideas from a different perspective, and on the contrary to a prevailing traditional view, I would like a different Van Gogh to be a Van Gogh for everyone.”

     

     

     

     

    It’s no secret that Van Gogh’s life wasn’t entirely a smooth-sailing one. So, through his works, Moghaddam aims to present an alternate reality where it was somehow filled with beauty and love. He also couples his heartwarming artworks with captions that are thought-provoking and worth pondering upon.
