Most of us have made cut paper snowflakes or those dudes who link hands, but the paper cuttings that artist Maude White creates are a world, or perhaps even a universe, away from those things. With just plain white paper and a craft knife, White makes achingly beautiful works of art. It's exhausting even to think about the amount of time and patience, not to mention buckets of talent, that her work must require. Her haunting paper images are like something from a dream and have a wonderful ethereal quality. Talking about her art, White writes,
“When I cut paper, I feel as if I am peeling back the outer, superficial layer of our vision to reveal the secret space beneath. With paper cutting there are so many opportunities to create negative space that tells its own story. Letting the observer become present in the piece allows him or her to look through it.”
