According to his owners, he was 1 and half years old when they took him in.

Barry is a Gloster canary, a small but active member of the canary family. Being the result of selective breeding, these birds are not seen in the wild. Like all canaries, this particular species are also known to be very avid singers. There are two subspecies of Gloster canaries: the Consort and the Corona. Consorts have smooth heads with no crest while Coronas have crested heads that look like a bowl cut hairdo. And obviously, Barry belongs to the latter group.
