Due to its glass-like luster and plastic-like composition, the use of resin in art has become so popular. While this versatile medium is being used more and more in the crafting community, Russian artist Evgeny Hontor takes this trending art to a whole new level with his mesmerizing resin animal sculptures. Hontor has been sculpting miniature figures since 2006. Most of his creations are incredibly intricate figurines depicting fantasy animals made out of velvet clay. But recently, he has been using clear resin to create miniature sculptural pieces that look like they’re made of ice.
Compared to opaque velvet clay, clear resin offers limitless opportunities for Hontor to create enchanting animal sculptures with luminosity, clarity, brilliance, and depth. Furthermore, the translucent medium also allows the sculptor to highlight natural elements embedded inside each sculptural piece. He cleverly incorporates flowers, feathers, and leaves into the ‘ice’ creatures – allowing each masterpiece to hold these natural elements inside them forever. He then paints additional details such as eyes and decorative markings for the finishing touches.

“I feel like a child again with these crystal creatures,” says Hontor. “I know I will sell most of them, but I am so happy that before that I can have a little of them, view them, photograph them, and hold them in my hands!”
