Mom Tells Her Kids They Need To Lay Still To Charge The Glow-In-The-Dark Pajamas

Getting kids to do things, like taking a bath or going to sleep, can sometimes be a challenge.  And this mom from Poughkeepsie, New York just figured out an hilariously ingenious way to get her daughters into bed without the chaos. Her trick? She tells her daughters that they need to lay down to ‘charge’ their glow-in-the-dark PJs. It worked so well that the proud Mom just had to share it on Facebook. She shared the post on September 29th, saying:

“Looking for a way to keep your kids still? Buy them glow-in-the-dark PJs. Tell them they have to lie really still under the light to “charge” them. I’m not even sorry.”

Her cheeky advice immediately went viral, gathering more than 200, 000 likes and over 120, 000 shares. A few days later, she updated the post with a tip to help the trick’s magic stick for a little while longer:

“To expand the trickery, I’ve started putting the PJs back into their drawer when they get dressed in the morning… unexposed to light all day, they dim and do not glow in the dark when they tried to test me last night before bed. Reinforcing the need to lie quietly under the light before bed.”

In the now-viral photo, Jessica’s two daughters, 3-year-old Hannelore and 4-year-old Emma, can be seen laying on their bedroom floor while their ceiling light “charges” their glow-in-the-dark PJs. Isn’t that just the cutest thing?

The glow-in-the-dark PJs routine is helping the girls with their sensory processing disorder in a fun way

Sensory processing disorder (originally called “sensory integration dysfunction” or SID) refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate motor and behavioral responses.  Sensory processing (originally called “sensory integration dysfunction” or SID) refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate motor and behavioral responses. Persons with this disorder can either be overly sensitive or under-responsive to things in their environment. And Jesssica’s daughters are overly sensitive, which makes things even more challenging for both the mom and the girls. The clever mom shared that her little trick really helped improve the girls’ bedtime routine. They do it every day now, as a part of their sensory diet.

“We also use essential oils to help support sleep and calm so this is a great way to get some stillness,” the crafty Mom added.

People had some funny things to say about the mom’s ingenious bedtime trick:

Genius. Jessica got her daughters’ glow-in-the-dark PJs at Hanna Andersson. So, if you want to give her trick a try (or if you just want to try it yourself), don’t miss the chance! Their current PJ lineup includes designs are inspired by Star Wars, Iron Man, Batman, and cute Halloween designs. These PJs will definitely make awesome stocking stuffers this coming Christmas!
