Eric Rieger loves to work with color and to bring it into dull and neglected spaces. He wants his work to impact on a subconscious level, introducing feelings which will have a long lasting imprint on the viewer.

This piece 'ASYLUM' was given its name due to the creation of it pushing Rieger's endurance to its very limit. Also Roosevelt Island (where the pool is situated) was once home to the Metropolitan Asylum. After its closure there was a type of residential community inspired by utopia, which took the asylum's place. The artist wanted to question if things should be isolated just because they're different? As he says himself…

"Maybe…but then life would be just gray."
