Sadly, little girl Sapphyre Johnson was born with missing toes and fingers. Her feet were amputated so that she could be fitted with prosthetics free of charge by the Shriners hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. In a beautiful twist of fate, dog owner Karen Riddle had a puppy who was missing a paw, and although it was suggested she have him euthanized, she rightly thought he would make an excellent therapy dog. The pup is named Lt. Dan (named after the character in Forest Gump) and him and Sapphyre now have an unbreakable bond. Upon meeting Lt. Dan Sapphyre said 'That's my puppy. He's just like me.'
