Some artisans use dried flora to create dainty jewelry pieces and others make furniture pieces inspired by nature. It seems as though the majestic view of the ocean from a bird’s eye view is among the most popular themes right now. Many artisans are now doing ocean wave resin. But, instead of simply taking inspiration from the ocean’s surface, Turkish artisan Samil Demirel has decided to take us for a dive with his ocean resin lamps!
So, Demirel’s resin lamps are composed of wood and resin, just like HungarianWood. However, unlike HungarianWood’s mesmerizing fusion-inspired lamps, Demirel chooses to use the uneven and highly textured surface of bark wood. We’ve seen many artisans use live edge wood for their ocean-inspired tables, but we’ve rarely seen anyone make use of the bark.

Turkish resin artisan Samil Demirel makes ocean resin lamps that feature the magic of the deep sea
The bark’s rough and uneven edges are transformed into snippets of land in Demirel’s lamps. Cerulean blue epoxy resin then envelopes the wood. His designs typically take a more geometric form, as though you now have a piece of the ocean, frozen forever in time, right in the comfort of your home! Meticulously carved scuba divers, underwater creatures and even sunken ships can also be seen inside the lamps.
Each miniature character that Demirel includes in his resin lamps are handmade and he meticulously forms the ships, divers and underwater animals using a Dremel rotary tool. The finished accessories will then be painted before being placed in the semi-solid epoxy resin. Most of his carved accessories are made with basswood. However, his lamps often feature more than just one type of wood. Most of the time Demirel uses a combination olive, bass, walnut and even pine wood!
