New Initiative Pairs Preschoolers With The Elderly And The Results Are Fantastic

 

Preschoolers are obtaining wisdom and learning important life lessons by being paired up with the elderly at Providence Mount St Vincent in Seattle, WA. The nursing home, which houses 400 elderly residents, now also houses the Intergenerational Learning Center, a childcare facility that allows infants to five year olds to interact with older people. The kids benefit by learning about the ageing process, and are taught not to fear older folk or people with disabilities. Currently, 43% of older adults experience social isolation, and having the kids there gives residents at Providence joy and a renewed sense of self-worth, as they help to teach the toddlers important skills. Activities the children and older adults do together include music, dancing, art and storytelling. The unique project has already been hailed a great success! Check out images of the project, below…
