‘Phantom’ The Baby Koala Is Inseperable From His Mom Even During Her Surgery

Phantom, the 6-month-old baby koala (joey), loves his mom so much that when she was hit by a car and had to have surgery, the brave little fellow stayed by her side. Mom Lizzy, suffered a collapsed lung and facial trauma, and was treated at late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin and his wife Terri's Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. The good news is that mom and baby are recovering well and are still together! With koalas, bonding only happens between moms and babies as the animals are asocial. Babies stay in their mom's pouch for the first 7 months after they're born, and are weaned when they reach about 12 months.
