Way back in 2008, freelance illustrator and graphic designer Diogo Machado, came up with the idea to create a project which would honor the history of his hometown. Being from the 650-year-old village of Cascais in Portugal, Machado grew up with beautiful tiled panels both on the exteriors and interiors of the local buildings. What better way to pay tribute to his village, than decorating old run down places with his own take on this tile art. You can see the artist at work with one of his stencils below. So far he has transformed electricity boxes, walls and archways with his take on azulejos (Portuguese tiles). Machado has even created his beautiful works in Tunisia as the first photo below shows.
