This Indian Temple Is Filled With 20,000 ‘Holy’ Rats

Wild rats are horrid and frightening, right? Well, they're not to the many worshippers and pilgrims who choose to visit a certain temple located in Deshnoke, India. Photographer, Nicolas Economou traveled through the region recently and he was surprised and intrigued to hear about the small temple, home to a staggering 20,000 rats (estimated). The temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess, Karni Mata. The rats are perceived as holy and are called 'kabbas', some people believe the rats used to be soldiers or children in a former life! Despite a few hygiene worries, Economou visited the temple and took the pictures you see below! Check it out!
