These might look like giant plastic toys, but they do actually serve a purpose. These structures, designed by Taranta Creations, are pavilions that have varying functions. Located in Bailianjing Park, Shanghai, the idea of these pavilions are to facilitate typical park life. Parks are of great cultural significance in China and city residents in particular use them a lot, as many people don't have their own gardens. Parks foster a sense of community and you'll generally find people engaged in activities such as playing mahjong or chess, practicing tai chi, singing karaoke, or simply drinking tea with friends and neighbors. Each of these pavilions has its own purpose. For instance, some can be used for games, some have screens and microphones for singing karaoke, and some act as "jukeboxes." Aside from this, they have some other notable features, they have their own wind turbines which generate enough power to light them up at night and they're built on stilts to keep them out of harms way should the Hangpu River flood. Let's take a look at these weird and wonderful pavilions!

These structures certainly don't look like your average park pavilions, but they sure are cool! We'd love to have a park like this near us.
