This Japanese preschool has got its priorities straight. The 'Dai-Ichi Yochien', in Kumamoto City, believes in fostering creative thought in kids, rather than teaching them to simply follow the teachers orders without question. They have several methods for achieving this, including an open plan layout and the mixing of classes, but the clear highlight of the building is its ability to collect a rainwater puddle in the middle of the school! The unique layout of the school means that, when it rains, a puddle forms at its center. When the puddle is there, students are invited to splash and play freely. When it's not raining, the space can be used to play sports, or even as an ice rink in the winter! What a great idea, check it out!
