Maria and Lucy Aylmer are twin sisters who look nothing alike. Although, as fraternal twins, you wouldn’t expect them to be identical, their appearances are so radically different, that most people don’t believe them when they say that they’re twins. These two girls from Gloucester in the UK were born to father Vince, who is Caucasian, and mother Donna, who is half-Jamaican. Maria has dark hair, dark eyes and the same skin tone as her mother, whereas her twin sister Lucy has red hair, blue eyes and extremely pale skin. Lucy says…
“No-one ever believes we are twins because I am white and Maria is black. Even when we dress alike, we still don’t even look like sisters, let alone twins. When we’ve met friends for the first time they never believe we are twins and they have even made us produce our birth certificates to prove that we are actually twins.”
Despite their outward differences, 18-year-old Lucy and Maria are extremely close. Although this is a perfectly explainable quirk of genetics, it is a very rare one. The girls, however, are proud to be different.
