Chile's Atacama Desert is the world's driest non-polar desert. At most times of the year it's pretty barren looking, as deserts typically are. However, during a certain spell in the Southern Hemisphere's spring time, the Atacama is prone to springing suddenly to life. Following the heavy rainfalls, that are typical in the region during October and November, flowers hiding beneath the desert's surface burst forth in spectacular color! Take a look!
